In the realm of experimental music, Chronicles of Metamorphosis emerges as a captivating project that transcends the boundaries of traditional music. This project deeply intertwines classical and electronic music styles, inviting the audience on a sonic journey. Through a unique fusion of orchestral instruments and electronic elements, this project seeks to redefine the practices of musical composition and performance.

The fusion captured in Chronicles of Metamorphosis arises from a meticulous blend of orchestral and electronic elements, presented in a sonic installation that evolves from a contemporary three-minute composition. This composition was developed using MIDI and virtual instruments from the BBC Symphony Orchestra available in Spitfire Audio.

The composition begins in the key of G minor, establishing a distinct tonal foundation. The following orchestral instruments were taken into consideration, each selected for their unique timbre and role in the composition: a flute, an oboe, a B-flat clarinet, a bassoon, two F horns, a trumpet, a tenor trombone, a tuba, timpani, violins I, violins II, violas, cellos, double basses.

The selected electronic elements complemented the musical composition. They interacted with the subsequent piece, challenging the idea of a perfect tonal composition. Tonal alterations were achieved through synthesis, thus creating intentional dissonances with microtonal adjustments, resulting in an atmospheric departure from traditional tuning. Additionally, rhythmic alterations were made to convey the conception that the orchestra was offbeat.

The composition achieved an impressive dimension with the incorporation of two distinct environments into a single space. One side of the room featured a powerful and tonal classical base, while the opposite side of the same room showcased the electronic atonal reinterpretation. This integration stage ensured a harmonious relationship between the two sides of the room, thus creating a captivating transition for the audience moving between the two contrasting yet interconnected sonic environments.

​The room was equipped with an immersive audio system. Both sides of the room featured two stereo speakers positioned side by side. The four speakers formed a square, positioned outward. Each pair of speakers provided the panoramic view of a symphonic orchestra. These two environments were synchronised using Ableton Live software.

In this project, the fusion of classical and electronic elements gave rise to an immersive musical experience. This investigation reveals the innovation, creativity, and technological integration that define the project.

From the meticulous orchestration of traditional instruments to the intentional dissonances and rhythmic alterations introduced through electronic elements, this composition breaks free from the constraints of conventional musical norms. The experience of two distinct environments within a single room, with its immersive sound design and synchronisation, invites the audience into a realm where conventional and electronic music distinctly converge.

The interactive components further elevate the project beyond a mere musical performance. The audience actively participates in the immersive sonic environment, blurring the boundaries between the conventional and electronic innovation. The integration of Ableton Live software and immersive design contribute to a transformative journey that transcends the traditional concert experience. 

Chronicles of Metamorphosis challenges us to reconsider the possibilities at the intersection of conventional and electronic music. It serves as a testament to the boundless creativity that arises when tradition and innovation harmonise.
